Mindful Eating: Fueling for a High-Intensity Practice

Mindful Eating: Fueling for a High-Intensity Practice

What you put into your body in the hours before and after a class at Yoga Tribe Brooklyn can make or break your experience. In the hot room, your body is working hard, and it needs the right kind of fuel to sustain that effort.

Pre-Class: Light and Sustaining

We recommend eating a light, easily digestible meal 2-3 hours before class. Think complex carbohydrates and a little protein—like oatmeal with berries or a piece of whole-grain toast with avocado. Avoid heavy fats or dairy, which can feel sluggish in the heat.

Post-Class: Replenish and Repair

After class, your muscles are hungry for amino acids and your glycogen stores need a refill. A smoothie with protein powder, spinach, and coconut water is the perfect "recovery cocktail." The coconut water provides natural electrolytes to replace what you lost through sweat.
